OFTEC plays a leading role in raising standards within the heating industries of the UK and Republic of Ireland.

fitting a flue cowlThe OFTEC trade association represents the interests of oil storage, appliance and supply equipment manufacturers and we develop course and assessment material for training providers. OFTEC also operate a UKAS accredited competent person registration scheme for over 8,000 technicians involved in the installation and maintenance of oil, solid fuel, and renewable heating equipment and Part P electrical work.

Finding a competent technician to install or service heating equipment used to be a challenge. That changed in 2002 when the British government removed some of the guesswork by introducing the idea of officially recognised ‘competent person schemes’, for a range of building trades, with the aim of improving standards within the building industry. Heating is one of the trades covered and OFTEC’s competent person scheme is a register of installers of oil, solid fuel and renewable heating equipment. We also offer registration for oil and solid fuel servicing and maintenance businesses.

To become OFTEC registered, all technicians must undertake an approved training course and assessment. They are also inspected regularly by OFTEC to ensure their work meets the required standard.

Regardless of whether you are looking for an installer or a servicing technician, selecting an OFTEC registered technician provides peace of mind that you are choosing a skilled and qualified technician, rather than an untrained and potentially incompetent workmen.

Gas Safe:

Quoted from the Gas Safe Register – www.gassaferegister.co.uk

Gas Safe are the official list of gas businesses who are registered to work safely and legally on boilers, cookers, fires and all other gas appliances.

By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. Trust the Triangle.

Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in 2009.

We aim to protect the public from unsafe gas work, and look to achieve this through:

  • a national investigations team tracking down illegal gas workers

  • regular inspections of Gas Safe registered engineers

  • educating consumers and raising awareness of gas safety

  • investigating reports of unsafe gas work
